Bound by Kira Saito

Bound by Kira SaitoBound (Arelia LaRue, #1)

This is the first book in the Arelia LaRue series. I loved this book and I am really looking forward to getting the second one as soon as possible.

This book takes place in New Orleans and it follows 16 year old Arelia LaRue. She lives with her grand-mere Bea and in New Orleans there are a lot of voodoo queens and ghosts around every corner. Arelia can hear the ghosts but she chooses to ignore them. So when her best friend Sabrina brings up a summer job working at the Darkwood plantation owned by a very rich family, the LaPlantes, she agrees to go, hoping to make some extra money to save up for college and help her grand-mere with rent and other things.

What Arelia doesn’t expect to happen is to meet her grand-meres sister that she knew nothing about and then strange things start to happen at the plantation. Pretty soon the powers she has been avoiding her whole life come out and they mean business. She has to use her powers to save a few people along the way, and she gets her aunt to help her practice her magic. She meets Lucas LaPlante and he keeps insisting she has to help him but he won’t tell her why so she doesn’t do anything about it. She gets into fights with Sabrina and learns about her powers and grows as a person as the duration of the book goes on. Will she end up helping Lucas with whatever it is he needs help with, and will she embrace her powers completely? I can’t wait to read the next book and find out. The book kind of left on a cliffhanger so I’m anxious to get my hands on the send book so I can find out what happens.

This book gets a 4.5 out of 5 stars, I very much enjoyed this book.
